Dementia support
Living with dementia affects everyone differently. At Robert Douglas Memorial Home, we provide compassionate, person-centred support that focuses on the individual, helping residents feel comfortable, respected and valued in a familiar and reassuring environment.
Understanding the individual
Every resident has their own life experiences, routines, preferences and interests. We take time to get to know the people we support, helping us provide care that reflects who they are as individuals.
By understanding what matters most to each resident, we can create a supportive environment that promotes wellbeing, dignity and quality of life.
A familiar and reassuring environment
Feeling safe and comfortable is especially important for people living with dementia.
Our Home provides a welcoming environment where residents can maintain familiar routines, enjoy meaningful activities and receive support from a caring team who understand their individual needs.
We aim to create an atmosphere that feels calm, reassuring and homely, helping residents feel secure and supported each day.
Supporting independence
We believe that living with dementia should not prevent someone from continuing to make choices and remain involved in daily life.
Residents are encouraged to maintain their independence wherever possible, with support tailored to their individual circumstances and abilities.
Our focus is always on helping people continue doing the things they enjoy while providing reassurance and assistance when needed.
Working with families
Families play an important role in the lives of our residents.
We value the knowledge and insight that relatives and friends can provide, helping us better understand each person’s history, preferences and routines. By working together, we can ensure residents receive care and support that reflects their individual needs.
Family and friends are warmly welcomed and encouraged to remain an active part of life at the Home.
Activities and engagement
Meaningful activities can play an important role in supporting wellbeing and maintaining social connections.
Our dedicated Activities Coordinator organises a varied programme of activities, entertainment and outings, providing opportunities for residents to remain active, engaged and connected with others.
Activities are tailored wherever possible to suit individual interests and abilities, helping residents continue to enjoy fulfilling experiences and meaningful moments.
